User interfaces are the access points where users interact with designs. Successful UI Design, requires a good understanding of user needs, careful planning of user journeys and the application of information architecture. There are several phases and processes in UI Design, depending on the project, but the goal is always the same – to create a design users will find easy and pleasurable to use.
Below is a video of the mobile prototype we created for our client, and a case-study of the project.
Stunt agency ’Stunts53’ required a responsive website to showcase their services. Although designed in consideration of the desktop environment, the nature of the client’s industry meant the website would primarily be viewed on mobile devices. In addition, during the website design and development the client would be on location in the USA filming, so would need to view and approve the website almost exclusively on a mobile phone. This presented an opportunity for us to create a click-able mobile prototype, specifically suited to the needs of the client.
We designed for two platforms, starting with a desktop view and quickly moving-on to create ‘wireframes’ for a mobile environment. Using industry standard software ‘Sketch’, we took the desktop design and wireframes and applied them to the iPhone 8 format. We used ‘Invision’ to build a ‘click-able’ prototype, which allowed the mobile version of the website to be viewed and approved directly by the client via his mobile phone.
To ensure the ‘UI’ of the website on mobile devices was as seamless as possible, the client conducted his own ‘UX’ research during the development process, by showing the click-able mobile prototype to colleagues and co-workers (directors, producers etc).
We were able to evaluate and amend the usability of the mobile design in ‘real-time’ – which the client found to be invaluable.
